Amtrak Route Description
The following has been extracted from Amtrak's "Silver Service" Route Guide.
"As the big cities of the Northeast fade into the distance, see the Civil War battlefields of Richmond and Fredericksburg pass outside your window and then the dreamy landscapes of North Carolina. In North Carolina, the Silver Star parts ways with the Palmetto and Silver Meteor, heading inland before meeting again in Savannah. The Silver Service trains travel on to Tampa and Miami. The Palmetto ends in Savannah."
The rail travel distance between New York and Miami via the Silver Star is 1480 miles. The travel distance between the same two cities via the Silver Meteor is 1389 miles. The rail travel time is about 32 hours on the Silver Star and 28 hours on the Silver Meteor.
