Freshening Up to Start 2009

We've started out the new year by freshening up our website a bit. All of the route guides have been thoroughly linked-checked and we've updated several photographs and added a few new ones. Many formatting and cosmetic changes have been made, but most of the changes are ongoing beneath the surface. Our goal is to substantially improve the quality of the Rail Passenger USA website, and the guides that comprise them, as we continue to grow in 2009.

If you haven't had the chance to visit our site lately, go ahead and take a peek; we think you'll like what you see!

Carolinian and Piedmont Route Guides Added!

Route Guides for the Piedmont, Amtrak Trains 73 and 74, and the Carolinian, Amtrak Trains 79 and 80, have been added to the Rail Passenger USA website.

The Carolinian travels daily between New York City and Charlotte, NC. Currently both the north and south bound Carolinians leave the two cities in the morning and complete their journey mid-evening of the next day. The Piedmont provides daily local service between North Carolina's Capitol City, Raleigh, NC, and the busy metropolis of Charlotte.

The Carolinian and Piedmont are financed and operated by Amtrak in partnership with the State of North Carolina.

Amtrak Host Railroads

An "Amtrak Host Railroads compilation has been added to our Rail Information Page. This feature provides a general overview of the Amtrak Routes and includes links to the websites of most of the railroad companies with which Amtrak has Operating Agreements.

Travel Information

We sometimes receive requests to provide fare and reservation information for the trains described in our Route Guides. We don't provide such information since we're not authorized to do so. Links to the Amtrak and VIA Rail Canada websites are provided on our " Rail Information Page" and, as always, throughout the Route Guides.

For up to the minute schedule, fare and reservation information go directly to Amtrak's Home Page or VIA Rail Canada's Home Page or contact them by phone at 1-800-USA-RAIL (Amtrak) and 1-888-VIA-RAIL (VIA Rail Canada).

Happy Rails to You!
