Southwest Chief Route Added!

The Southwest Chief Slide Show has been added to "Routes Currently Included". The Southwest Chief runs daily in both directions between Chicago and Los Angeles. The train's route approximates the route that the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe's classic Super Chief and El Capitan followed in the heydays of rail passenger service. The cover of a 1946 Super Chief promotional publication depicting the Super Chief is shown below.

Relax and enjoy the Midwest journey through Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas on the way to the Great Southwest. In Colorado, the route carves out the southeastern corner of the state before entering New Mexico and crossing the Continental Divide over Raton Pass. From there you'll get a taste of the great Southwest and its Native American culture as you travel westbound through New Mexico Arizona, and Southern California. The route runs parallel to fabled US Route 66 from Albuquerque, NM past the southern gateways to Grand Canyon National Park and then on through the Mojave Desert to San Bernardino, CA while descending into the Los Angeles Basin and the sprawling metropolis of "LA".

Route Guide Updates

All of the Route Guides currently included have been updated with current information to coincide with Amtrak's semiannual issuance of their updated schedule information (refer to http://www.amtrak.com). Numerous changes have been made to these Route Guides to ensure that they contain currently valid hyperlinks, contact information, route maps and other information.

Happy rails to you!
