The Rail Passenger USA San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner route guides were added to our library of USA Regional Route Guides in June 2011.

San Joaquin Route

Amtrak's San Joaquin trains travel daily in both directions between Oakland, California and Bakersfield, California and between Sacramento, California and Bakersfield. Click on the map for an overview of the route.  You may want to take a short respite in Lodi... just don't get stuck there.

Pacific Surfliner Route

Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner trains travel daily in both directions between San Luis Obispo, California and San Diego, California. Click on the map for an overview of the route.  If you're interested in the history of early central California and have a few minutes you may want to check out  the story of La Mision de la Purisima Concepcion near the Lompoc-Surf station

Rail Travel Writing and Photography Workshop

For those of you interested in rail photography and writing about your rail adventures, there is a great opportunity coming up the week of October 16-21, 2011 in La Plata, Missouri. 

A workshop sponsored by the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation (aprhf.org) Silver Rails Gallery  will be taught by two noted TrainWeb field reporters—Carl Morrison, a widely published professional photographer, and Henry Kisor, author of 'Zephyr: Tracking a Dream Across America'. Sabbatical

In June 2011 Rail Passenger USA celebrated its fourth anniversary with the completion of the final two route guides planned for the USA portion of our website and we're taking a break. Thanks for joining us, it's been a quite a ride!
