Northeast Corridor

This fall Rail Passenger USA completed Route Guides for the trains that travel the busy Northeast Corridor. The guides encompass those trains included in the Amtrak Timetables entitled 'Northeast Corridor 1 '  between New York City and Washington DC; 'Northeast Corridor 2' between Boston, MA / Springfield, MA and Washington DC; and 'Northeast Corridor 3 ' between Boston, MA and Lynchburg, VA / Virginia Beach, VA.

US Population Density Map

Our 'Northeast Corridor 1' Route Guide was initially added to the Rail Passenger USA library in November 2009. We've since updated that guide and just added the 'Northeast Corridor 2' and 'Northeast Corridor 3' Route Guides to our library. Click on one of the maps or links below to view the guides

There you'll find detailed station-to-station maps, photographs, station information, local transportation options and much more useful information.

High Speed Rail Round 2

On October 28, 2010 the USDOT announced 'round 2' funding recipients under  the High- Speed Intercity Passenger Rail Program.

The following was extracted from the US Department of Transportation/Federal Railroad Administration website. Click on the map or one of the links below to read more.

'On October 28, 2010, Secretary of Transportation LaHood announced the second round of recipients selected to receive funding under the High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail (HSIPR) Program (press release). In total, 54 applications were selected to receive approximately $2.5 billion in FY10 and remaining FY09 funding. These projects build off of the first round of projects selected as part of the $8 billion down payment for high-speed and intercity passenger rail made under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.'

Amtrak Timetable Update

Amtrak completed their seasonal timetable update in October and November. The updated Southwest Chief and Downeaster Timetables became effective on October 18,2010 and the rest become effective today, November 8, 2010. If you're traveling in the near future check them out on Amtrak's website under the Timetables tab.

Rail Passenger USA Alert

Ray appeared a little disgruntled after working his way through the Northeast Corridor. After he finished, he just grumbled off mumbling the words to some old folk song and we haven't seen him since.

If you happen to run into him on your travels please contact us... uhhh, errhh... ahem ..  at your convenience. These are the only  two photographs we have. The one on the left was taken sometime before he started compiling the NEC route guides. The one on the right is allegedly a photo of him sent to us right after he finished. Reportedly he was last seen heading west somewhere through Pennsylvania gathering data for the 'Keystone Service' and 'Pennsylvanian' routes coming up next on Rail Passenger USA.
